Why I Always Carry a Monopod
I know it might seem strange to you prefer a monopod over a tripod. However, to me, I truly feel as if your mono pod is much easier to work with. If I’m not shooting landscape photography then I do not use a tripod. It’s just too bulky and a hassle to carry around everywhere I go. Not to mention my camera and lens already weighs about 8 pounds to begin with. That’s not including my backpack that I take with me everywhere or the heavy wagon I tug along.
I can keep my monopod attached to my camera and it doesn’t weigh much more and I don’t have to mess with any legs to get it stable. I simply extend it like a long cane and can use it to help me get sharper images on the go! Especially after all the coffee I drink in the mornings…and….all day. So yeah! It works like a charm.
During weddings this is a must for me! There’s only been a few times that I have shot where I haven’t used it. More often than not it comes in handy! I’ve notice a great difference from when I don’t use it and when I do, the day after a wedding is when I really notice.
After shooting 6 to 12 hours in one day, my shoulders will hurt if I don’t use it. It helps me out big time by taking all weight of the camera off of my tired shoulders the camera strap holds! I seriously love my monopod because it also fits into my tripod. So it’s a two-in-one deal! I’m always telling my students and other fellow photographers that the mono pod is the way to go! It’s even great whenever you use a zoom lens while out hiking. It definitely helps stabilize the lens so you can get a clear shot and minimal camera shake if not any! Which do you prefer? Monopod? Tripod? Neither?
